Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Angel Garcia de la Garza

I’m an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics, Department of Epidemiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology. My research focuses on the analysis of high-dimensional and longitudinal data in neuroscience, neurology, and psychiatry, with a particular interest in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, blood-based biomarkers, and digital/smartphone-based cognitive assessments in diverse aging populations.

I completed my B.A. in Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania in 2015 and my Ph.D. in Biostatistics at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in 2022. My dissertation, advised by Jeff Goldsmith, focused on dimension reduction methodology for functional data and machine learning applications to epidemiologic surveys. My current work as Principal Investigator on an NIH/NIA R03 award (R03AG095655) examines machine learning tools to integrate pen-and-paper and smartphone self-reported cognitive concerns as predictors of longitudinal Alzheimer’s biomarkers.
